If you’re unsure what it’s like to work with a copywriter or what you should expect when we work together, this is the page for you.

How my copywriting projects work: step-by-step

Step 1: Discovery call

First, we’ll jump on a quick video call to get to know each other and chat about what you’re looking for, and how I can help you.

Step 2: Initial brief (questionnaire)

I’ll need some details before I can provide a quote, so next I’ll send over a quick briefing questionnaire for you to fill out. It won’t take long and if you get stuck I can provide guidance and help fill in any blanks.

Step 3: Proposal (quote)

Once we’ve chatted through the broad objectives and agreed on the details and deliverables, I will have enough information to provide you with a proposal. 

Step 4: Deposit

Once the details are confirmed and my proposal is approved and signed, I’ll send an initial 50% deposit invoice that is payable prior to commencement of work. 

Step 5: Extended brief (if required)

If you have additional context or supporting documents that need to be reviewed as part of your project, now is the time to share them with me. Together, we should add to and refine my brief until we are both confident in the direction — remember, a quality brief is essential to any marketing project. 

Step 6: The work

Now we get into the fun part — the writing! My process will vary slightly depending on the size and complexity of your project, but a typical workflow may include the following steps:

  • Setting up shared folders in Dropbox or Google Drive

  • Meetings and research

  • Copy sample

  • First draft

  • Review and amends

  • Second draft

  • Review and amends

  • Final draft

All projects include two rounds of amends as standard unless otherwise agreed.

Step 7: Final payment

After submitting my final draft, I will issue an invoice for the balance of the project fee. 

Step 8: Testimonial/referrals

Wrapping up the project, I’d be appreciative if you would provide me with a testimonial or recommend my services to others in your network.

What types and sizes of businesses do you work with?

I work with small-to-medium businesses as well as bigger brands.  

I usually work with businesses that already have a marketing function, whether that’s a dedicated human such as a marketing manager, or a team. If your business isn’t yet at this stage, we can discuss options for how we can work together. 

Where are you based?

I am based in Collingwood, Melbourne. I am fully remote and can work with you whether you’re based in Australia, New Zealand or overseas.

What tools and software do you work with?

My standard word processor is Google Docs. If your business cannot work with this platform for any reason, please let me know as early as possible so I can prepare an alternative workflow in MS Office.

How does my business upload your content once delivered?

I deliver neatly formatted and clearly structured content, so it’s super easy for your web designer or developer (if applicable) to upload, or I can provide referrals from my network for these services if you need them.
